“Wake Me Up” is a song by Swedish DJ and music producer Avicii. American soul singer Aloe Blacc provides uncredited vocals for the track and Incubus’ Mike Einziger provides acoustic guitar. It was released on 17 June 2013 by Columbia Records as the first single from Avicii’s full-length debut studio album, True (2013).

Avicii introduced “Wake Me Up!” for the first time live on stage at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami. The experimental rendering (it was accompanied by a live band with instruments and vocalists, including Blacc) reportedly confused and angered a section of the electronic dance festival community. Subsequently Avicii achieved critical and commercial success with the release of the single worldwide. “Wake Me Up” peaked at number one in much of Europe and charted well in all of the English-speaking world. The song has been described as a “summer anthem” by Variance Magazine and, throughout the 2013 festival season, Avicii included it as part of the opening or closing sequence of his sets at EDC Las Vegas, EDC London, Tomorrowland, Creamfields, Electric Zoo and the iTunes Festival.

“Wake Me Up” Lyrics

Feeling my way through the darkness
Guided by a beating heart
I can’t tell where the journey will end
But I know where to start

They tell me I’m too young to understand
They say I’m caught up in a dream
Well life will pass me by if I don’t open up my eyes
Well that’s fine by me

[2x]
So wake me up when it’s all over
When I’m wiser and I’m older
All this time I was finding myself
And I didn’t know I was lost

I tried carrying the weight of the world
But I only have two hands
Hope I get the chance to travel the world
But I don’t have any plans

Wish that I could stay forever this young
Not afraid to close my eyes
Life’s a game made for everyone
And love is the prize

[2x]
So wake me up when it’s all over
When I’m wiser and I’m older
All this time I was finding myself
And I didn’t know I was lost

Didn’t know I was lost
I didn’t know I was lost
I didn’t know I was lost
I didn’t know (didn’t know, didn’t know)
